KIWANIS THINK 39

How many members of your club are under the age of 39?

If the answer is "not many" then it's time to THINK 39

To ensure long-term survival, membership growth, and increased community service, Kiwanis clubs must recruit younger members. THINK 39 is a program created by the Kiwanis New York District to help clubs recruit new members who are under the age of 39.  This page will provide you with useful tools you can use to build your club's membership and attract younger members, which will help strengthen the great work you already do.

WHY RECRUIT YOUNGER MEMBERS?
Recruiting new members of all ages builds a stronger club. The more members you have, the more work you can do. A larger and more diverse club brings larger and more diverse service and fundraising projects to the forefront. And your community reaps the benefits with every new project your club performs. Today's Kiwanians need to ensure the continuity and future success of our organization. The next generation of Kiwanis must be found today!

Recruiting can be challenging. But it doesn't have to be.  Why are you in Kiwanis? Friendship, service, community, networking, business, all of the above?
Let others know why you joined Kiwanis, and they will join too.

When recruiting younger members take cues from what they do for fun, work and service:  What are they doing, where are they going, when are they available, and how can Kiwanis fit? The idea that young people are not civically minded is a myth. In 2006, the William E. Smith Institute of Association Research concluded that contrary to assumptions, adults born after to 1969 show every indication of joining associations at higher rates than Baby Boomers.

So why aren't they in your Kiwanis Club? Perhaps no one ever asked them. Time to find out!
